First Lady Melania Trump scolds impeachment witness for invoking her son during testimony
US First Lady Melania Trump said a Democratic witness at the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment hearing should be "ashamed'' for bringing up the name of her 13-year-old son, Barron.
Stanford Law School professor and Appellate Attorney, Pamela Karlan, one of the Democrats’ star witness during the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing, used President Trump’s son Barron as an example to show difference between the president’s position and that of a medieval king.
Karlan’s remark drew sharp criticisms from Republican lawmakers, slamming her for making fun of the president’s youngest son, as children are traditionally off-limits.
House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida (R-Fla.) also vocally criticized Karlan for her remark, saying it does not lend “credibility” to her argument.
Gaetz also pointed out Karlan’s apparent bias, noting that she had appeared on an anti-Trump podcast, disparaged conservatives, and donated to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Elizabeth Warren.
