Julian Assange arrested

Julian Assange was found guilty of breaching his bail at Westminster Magistrates' Court, on Thursday. Judge Michael Snow quickly issued his verdict after Assange appeared in the courtroom where his supporters packed the public gallery.

Assange faces a sentence of up to 12 months for the conviction and has serious charges pending in the United States. WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief said that the arrest of founder Julian Assange was  "political persecution for doing journalism."

UK’s Foreign Office Minister says That UK’s policies will apply to Julian Assange in the same way as anyone else.

Assange took refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2012 after he was released on bail while facing extradition to Sweden on sexual assault allegations that have since been dropped. Assange has been under US Justice Department scrutiny for years for Wikileaks' role in publishing thousands of government secrets and was an important figure in the special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe as investigators examined how WikiLeaks obtained emails stolen from Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and Democratic groups. The US Justice Department has officially charged Assange with conspiring with Chelsea Manning to hack into a classified U.S. government computer. Ecuador's president said its government withdrew Julian Assange's asylum status, citing international convention violations.
