The Deep freeze expected to ease Thursday

The weather system that put much of the Midwest into a historic deep freeze was expected to ease Thursday, though temperatures could still reach record lows in some places before the region begins to thaw out.
Chicago dropped to a low of around minus 23, slightly above the city's lowest-ever reading of minus 27 set on January 1985.
The extreme cold is putting pressure on utility systems throughout the affected regions. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer asked residents of the Michigan Lower Peninsula to turn down the heat
One utility provider was seen handing out space heaters during an outage in Minnesota. Some local residents were notified with a late night phone call.

More than 2 dozen vehicles were involved in a chain reaction crash just after 1 p.m. Wednesday about 60 miles west of Philadelphia, authorities said some cars, however, were just stuck at the crash site and not damaged.

President Donald Trump, preparing to meet a Chinese trade delegation

President Donald Trump, preparing to meet a Chinese trade delegation Thursday, said the United States won't reach any final trade agreement with China until he sits down again with President Xi Jinping.

U.S. and Chinese negotiators on Wednesday opened two days of high-level talks aimed at settling fears of a trade war between the world’s largest economies.
Trump has set a March 2 deadline for increasing tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent.
The core of the U.S. allegations against China is that Beijing systematically steals trade secrets, forces foreign companies to hand over technology as the price of access to the Chinese market and unfairly subsidizes its own tech companies.
