President Trump discusses Iran and Middle East Peace talks with reporters at G-7
In an attempt to secure a breakthrough in global tensions over Iran's nuclear program, French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly invited Iran's top diplomat to the margins of the G-7 summit. President Trump's decision to pull the United States out of the 2015 nuclear deal and impose new sanctions was met with backlash from many of the G-7 nations. Macron and other leaders at the G-7 opposed the U.S. withdrawal from the treaty and have been trying to salvage it ever since. President trump has recently upped the anti with Iran and added new sanctions. Some of those sanctions directly target Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, whose government plane landed Sunday afternoon in the locked-down seaside resort of Biarritz. President Trump said he knew the Iranian diplomat was coming and would not say if any Americans met with Zarif during brief stay.
