President Donald J. Trump on Sunday afternoon took a tougher stance on China that he did on social media.

He warns China trade deal would not be possible if the Chinese communist party (the CCP) turns Hong Kong into “another Tiananmen Square” massacre, and says Apple Chief Executive Office Tim Cook has made a “compelling” tariff case.

Speaking to reporters at an airport in Morristown, New Jersey, President Trump says any trade deal with China would be incumbent on the Chinese communist party (the CCP) not using force against the Hong Kong pro-democracy activists.

[Donald Trump, U.S. President]: (

"No, I think it'd be very hard to deal if they do violence. I mean if it's another Tiananmen Square, I think it's a very hard thing to do (a trade deal) if there is violence. And, you know, I'm president, but that's a little beyond me because I think there'd be, you know, I think there'd be tremendous political sentiment not to do something.”

President Trump says Apple CEO Tim Cook makes a “compelling” case about the tariffs.

President Trump tells reporters that he is considering tariff changes that are planned to take effect in mid-December, after his meeting with Apple’s chief.
