Pro-democracy protesters condemn Cathay Pacific for firing cabin crew
Some 2,000 people gather in Hong Kong for a peaceful rally on Wednesday to denounce Cathay Pacific Airways for firing airline employees, who participate or support the pro-democracy rallies that have been ongoing on the island city since early June.
The Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions says so far Cathay Pacific Airways have dismissed or forced 20 of its staff to resign.
These include pilots, cabin crew, and airline managers for their link to the on-going pro-democracy protests.
The confederation calls for the rally following the dismissal of Cathay Dragon Airlines Flight Attendants’ Association head Rebecca Sy.
Sy says she was given no reason for her dismissal and expresses her concern for the loss of freedom of speech.
