The BL News—Vice President Pence tells border agents help is on the way

Vice President Mike Pence visited the Customs and Border Protection Advanced Training Facility in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Wednesday.
Pence got a first-hand look at the facility's live combat training, border wall training exercises and watched a life-size simulator with a series of border security scenarios.

The vice president was joined on tour by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
In remarks following the tour, Pence thanked the Customs and Border Protection agents for their hard work and pledged the administration's support, telling the crowd, "under this president, we will always have your back."

Trump's border emergency measure could divert $3.6 billion from military construction projects to build border barriers, even though Congress had voted to limit him to less than $1.4 billion for such construction.
Under a 1976 law, presidents have broad discretion in determining when a national emergency has occurred. Congress can vote to block an emergency declaration, but the two-thirds majorities required to overcome presidential vetoes make it hard for lawmakers to prevail.
